Strategies for Identifying and Serving Clients with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

Oct 18, 2017

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) is a non-diagnostic umbrella term describing the range of effects that can occur in an individual whose mother consumed alcohol during pregnancy. These effects may include physical, mental, behavioral and/or learning disabilities with possible lifelong implications. Individuals with FASD are frequently misdiagnosed or their condition is not recognized which can lead to lack of success in treatment. Identification of FASD and building accommodations can provide an additional route to possible treatment success. This presentation will provide an overview of FASD, barriers to providing successful treatment and tools to support the needs of individuals with impairments related to prenatal alcohol exposure.
