Health Project Welcomes STATS Coalition!

The Health Project is happy to introduce our newest coalition: Straight Talk About Tough Stuff, or STATS.

STATS is a program presented by high school students who promote abstinence from sex, drugs, alcohol, and tobacco as the healthiest way to live. Targeting middle school students, STATS members present a clear message: “Everyone’s not doing it.”

STATSSelected high school students serve as peer educators and receive training in health issues and presentation skills. They voluntarily sign a one-year commitment to remain abstinent from sex, drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. The classroom presentations are prepared by STATS members with the direction of advisors and are geared to the middle school audiences. Each STATS team then presents their message through skits, dramas, and personal talks.

Our secret weapon is the kids do all the talking, and that’s why it works. Since 1993, STATS’ research-based programming has impacted the schools in Muskegon County in a positive and memorable way. Perhaps the best evidence of this is that they’re enthusiastically invited to return year after year – a testimony to both the message they deliver and their courage to take a stand.
